Excerpt from Elsekind by Celeste Hollister:
Kex and Hailan
Kex curled her knees tight against her chest. She breathed in slow, deep breaths. Her weapon felt cold beneath her palm. Rough boards rasped against her cheek as she pressed her face to the floor. Muffled footsteps approached – barefoot, if she had to guess. She tightened her fist around the weapon and waited. The angle was wrong, but she was too small to overpower him in a close fight. She would rely on quickness and the element of surprise. He would never think to find her here.
Her pulse quickened as the footfalls paused. The door opened on a well-oiled hinge. A sphere of lamplight revealed two hairy ankles, and – just as she hoped – two naked feet. Kex drew a breath and waited.
Closer, she thought. Come closer. I dare you.
Lamplight and legs loomed nearer but still out of reach. The lamp’s handle squeaked as he set it upon the table. Then he turned and shuffled forward, giving her an unpleasant glimpse of his toenails. Inches away, then half-inches, then precisely where she wanted him.
Kex lashed out, stabbing down into the top of his foot. He howled and hopped – as she hoped – and she kicked out, her heel connecting with his ankle, knocking his other foot out from beneath him.
He scrabbled to his side, quick for his size, but by then she had used his own leg to haul herself from beneath the bed. She vaulted astride him, pressing her weapon to his freshly-shaven throat.
            “Where is it?” she hissed.
Eyes wide, he glanced from her to the weapon pressed into his neck.
“Oh, by the Saints,” he moaned.
She bore down, sinking it deeper into his skin. “I asked you a question.”
He stammered, then refocused. “Is that a fork?”
“Aye.” The skin blanched around the tines as she leaned her weight into it. “I can make you bleed with a fork.”
“I think you already did,” he whined. She noted that he lay very, very still as he said, “C’mon, Kex, what’s this about?”
She narrowed her eyes. “Don’t play around, Hailan Chase. You know well what I want.”
“Nope.” Hailan carefully shook his head. “Not me.”
“I may not kill you with this,” Kex said through her teeth. She bore down enough to make him squirm. “But I will maim you – four perfect little cuts – and everywhere you go, from this day forward, everyone will know that Lady Kex took you down with a utensil.”
“Oh, Lady, is it?” Hailan said.
“Don’t change the subject,” she said. “Where is my book?”
            “Hmm… Book?”
“The Codex, damn it. Where is it?”
Hailan raised his hands. “Xylo has it.”
“Your sister?” Kex clicked her tongue.
            “She’s awful clever.”
            “She’s eight.”
Kex felt his weight shift. She knew this maneuver. If he thought he was going to roll her, she had to ensure he was too frightened to try. She flicked her wrist, caught the fork with her left hand, and positioned it above his eye.
His dilating pupils told her all she needed to know. He wouldn’t be moving. He might not dare to breathe.
“It is my Mother’s book,” Kex said. “I want it back.”
Hailan swallowed several gulps of air. “She’s a curious girl, my sister. You’re the only Elsekind she’s ever seen.”
Kex hissed through her teeth. Hailan cringed.
            She said, “Xylo’s seen Alusians.”
“That’s different,” he said. “You’re different. I mean, not different, not like Halfkin different, but you’re not the same.” He moaned. “You know what I mean.”
Kex eased back but kept the fork pointed at his face. Yes, she knew what he meant. All too well. “With my permission, Xylo may borrow any object in my possession. But you will not take them without asking. Nod if you understand.”
Hailan nodded. He looked like he might be sick.
“Go now and fetch it back,” Kex said. She got to her feet and moved to the door. “I will meet you and Aralund on the pitch in one half hour.”
Hailan massaged his neck. As she opened the door, he said, “Kex, I was only playing.”
Though she saw his sincerity, she could not afford to soften. She said, “I know that. Which is why you I leave you unharmed.” With a smirk, she added, “Well. Mostly.”

About the Author:
I’m a LEO wife, mother, and third-generation veteran.

I have been writing for thirteen years. My debut novel, LORD BACHELOR, earned second place in The Heart of Excellence, Reader’s Choice Award in 2016. This novel was also featured in InD’tale Magazine for receiving a Crowned Heart Review (4.5 stars). Although I enjoy the contemporary romance genre, my first love is historical romance. There’s just something about a man in a pair of Hessian boots.

When I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my husband and two boys, ages 13 and 11. Without their sacrifice and understanding, I would have never been able to pursue my passion of writing or my accomplishment of becoming a published author.
No matter what I write and read, there ALWAYS has to be a happy ending.
Excerpt from Mine, Forever and Always by Tammy L. Bailey
“Did you write the letter?”
Lily jumped and spread her gloved hand over her chest. Her heart thumped against her palm as she rotated around to face her friend. “Yes,” she answered, leaving out the fact that it no longer remained in her possession. “It’s…written.”
Jane clapped her hands like a child. “I’m sure it’s perfect, but I’ll read it later when Aunt Sophia has fallen asleep,” she whispered.
Lily glanced over at the gray-haired woman, her head bobbing one way and then the next, against a red and gold striped mahogany-framed couch. Aunt Sophia remained the preferred relative above everyone else because she always fell asleep during her sole occupation as a chaperone.
“For now, I’m trying to discover what possessed my brother to ask me to invite Miss Appleton,” Jane said, all the while smiling in their direction. “They are not together, but I do believe he chooses to associate with the most disagreeable women on purpose, just to vex me.”
Lily tried to avoid glancing in Henry’s direction by instead sending her friend a sympathetic smile. She’d always remembered Jane as being outspoken and determined. With a much larger dowry than Lily, she attracted her fair share of suitors, all of whom she tried to deflect with her infamous “parlor games.” That is until Jane had suddenly and surprisingly realized her unrecoverable love for Mr. Waverley.
“I cannot begin to speculate about Henry’s many cordial affairs,” Jane continued, fanning her face in disgust. “Do you know that Miss Appleton is rumored to have been engaged five months ago, but the wedding was called off because of something the groom discovered but did not disclose?”
Lily pressed her lips together. While her heart had remained steadfast and loyal to Jane’s brother, he’d veered off onto a path of open debauchery. Sometime between their quiet walks in the garden, a lovely pretend wedding day, and this moment, he’d become a man she hardly recognized. What had happened to the young boy who had reached for her hand when he thought her unhappy or hurt? Perhaps she might address him as Mr. Daltrey, next time.
“Oh, good. Look, Henry’s unlatched himself from Miss Appleton and is now speaking to Mr. Waverley. I shall introduce you to him.”
Lily shook her head. “But I had hoped to have some punch.” She needed something to steady her nerves, a place to think on how to retrieve the letter. Since seeing Henry again, her heart hadn’t slowed its pace, and her hands had yet to stop shaking. Of course, when she turned away, Jane grasped one of her trembling hands, hauling her toward where Mr. Waverley and Henry stood talking, a glass of brandy in their right hands.

Author Interview

What was the inspiration for your story?
My first love is historical romance, and I wanted to write something that was short and sweet. When I started writing: Mine Forever and Always,Henry was my main inspiration. I was drawn in by the idea of a ‘love’ letter gone astray and a woman (Henry’s sister) whose sole purpose in life is to play matchmaker.

What kept you going throughout the writing process?
The characters. My books are mainly character driven where there is a lot of dialog and quick banter. Once I have an idea of the story, my favorite part is putting the characters together and seeing how they react to each other. It’s sort of like playing Barbie’s…with the imagination.

Who is your most meaningful character and why?
I’d like to say Lily and Henry are the most meaningful characters; however, Henry’s sister, Jane, influences the direction of the story. Her planning and scheming really bring Lily and Henry together again. She does have some help, but I won’t divulge who her conspirator is…you’ll need to read the book.

Can we expect to hear more from these characters in the near future?
I don’t usually write a second part to the book, but I’ve had some reviewers ask about the future of Jane and Henry’s best friend, Mr. Waverly. I’m certainly thinking of a way to bring them together, whether conventional or unconventional. For Jane, the man she meets/marries will need to be extraordinary. Her expectations are quite high, after all.

How has this story touched your life?
This is my first Independent project. I created the cover and had the final say on the blurb. I believe this has helped me understand the publishing process more. Although I’m not sure if I’ll publish more independent books, this was a great experience for me.

What motivated you to start writing?
I believe I’ve always wanted to create stories. From a very young age, I wanted to be part of creating movies and television shows. Of course, reality always has a way of intervening. I joined the military and started a family before I thought about ‘creating’ again. It wasn’t until I watched Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth that I wanted to set down and dive into writing a book. My first project was a historical romance called, In the Arms of a Gentleman. I’m not sure if I’ll ever publish it, but I had so much fun writing the story, I just kept going. The rest is…as they say…history.

Review: Dirty Thief

Talk about a blisteringly hot, epic masterpiece! This story has so much heart and soul that it literally transports you out of your mind and into your wildest and most sensational dreams. What you have in your hands is a spectacularly, priceless work of art. It is the very definition of love and family that we all intensely crazy and relentlessly look for all of our lives. I can’t sing its praises loud enough or highlight its virtues long enough! This is romantic suspense at its absolute finest!!
If you thought that Zelda and Cal are hot, then you are in for a wonderful treat with Ava and Rowan. They will rock your world and show you why they mean business when they lay a claim on the other. Nothing will stand in the way of their molten passion, their pure love, and their unwavering devotion. Not only do they melt and enflame each other, they bring blissful peace and indescribable completion. They know how to life the other up after a long, grueling day. They are the other’s brilliant light in the darkness and unquenchable joy in the midst of fear and worry. They are truly the definition of the outstanding power couple that can face down any danger and come out shining and proving to everything that their bond and love will last for all time.
Tia Louise knows how to utterly and completely blow my mind. She is unquestionably an author of epic proportions who is a master at writing anything she puts her heart to. There is nothing that she cannot mold and fashion into perfect and complete bliss. She will always be one of my all-time favorite authors, and I never fail to wait in breathless anticipate for her next incredibly, life-changing tour de force.

About the Authors:
AJ Downey
A.J. Downey is the internationally bestselling author of The Sacred Hearts Motorcycle Club romance series. She is a born and raised Seattle, WA Native. Finds inspiration from her surroundings, through the people she meets, and likely as a byproduct of way too much caffeine.
She has lived many places and done many things though mostly through her own imagination… An avid reader all of her life it’s now her turn to try and give back a little, entertaining as she has been entertained. She lives in a small apartment in a small neighborhood with a larger than life fiancé and two cats.
Ariel Marie
Ariel Marie is an author who loves the paranormal, action and hot steamy romance. She combines all three in each and every one of her stories. For as long as she can remember, she has loved vampires, shifters and every creature you can think of. This even rolls over into her favorite movies! She love a good action packed thriller! Throw a touch of the supernatural world in it and she’s hooked!
She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where she currently resides with her husband and three beautiful children.
Avelyn Paige
Avelyn Paige is a born and raised Indiana girl. While she may be a Hoosier by birth, she is a Boilermaker by choice. Boiler Up! She resides in a sleepy little town in Indiana with her husband and three crazy pets. Avelyn spends her days working as a cancer research scientist and her nights sipping moonshine while writing and book reviewing. Avelyn loves everything paranormal, Cajun culture, and wants to try tornado chasing as a hobby when she finally grows up. She just has to get over that pesky fear of thunderstorms first.
Avelyn also enjoys collecting voodoo dolls from her trips to New Orleans.
B.B. Blaque
I write beautifully flawed characters who ultimately find, perfection is not a prerequisite. Our flaws are what make us unique and some flaws compliment each other better than others.
I love BDSM (Male dominant/female submissive.) There’s something that just feels so right about a man wearing the pants (especially when he wears them well and fills them nicely.) I am interested in the psychological aspects of relationships in general and especially when there is a power-exchange dynamic.
My world would stopping revolving if not for heavy rock music (and the wonderfully talented people who make it.) Music and it’s makers will definitely be strongly visible in my work. I listen, I remember…I listen, I’m inspired…to write…to love…to f**k…to live.
Carson Mackenzie
Carson lives in the South with her two sons, her three Great Danes, and the adopted shelter dog that keeps everyone in line. Books have always been a part of her life. Nothing is better to Carson than curling up and relaxing with a good story by losing herself in someone else’s world while leaving hers behind.
Writing stories and growing as an author with each book published, is a goal Carson wishes to reach. Her aspiration is to have a reader know when they see her name on a cover, they can trust in the fact there will be a good story as they flip the pages.
As an author, she hopes to bring you into her different worlds, giving you a chance to escape everyday responsibilities if only for a few hours.
Emma James
Emma loves writing hearts and flowers romance as much as she loves taking a walk on the dark side, writing in both contemporary romance and dark suspense. Love is always only a happily-ever-after away, even if sometimes it is a little twisted getting there. She lives life positively with writing, reading, music, and photography being her passions.
The important things she needs to surround herself with are family, friends, and furry creatures. She loves giving hugs as much as receiving them and winding down with good food, good friends, and a nice drink of the alcoholic variety when she pops her head out of her writing cave.
Be who you want to be and keep jumping those hurdles. They are only put in front of us to keep us on our toes.
Peace, love and live life.
Xxx
Emma James
Erin Trejo
I am a wife, mother, child chauffeur and author. I love being able to create different characters and spin a web that makes them come together in the end. My books do not stick to just one genre, they span many.
I write about things that are real life situations and fairy tales are not always smooth sailing. My MC books are hard and gritty and they have struggles just like you would in life.
I also have books that are not so in your face. There are several that are good love stories that are fraught with issues that the characters have to deal with.
Geri Glenn
Geri Glenn is the Amazon best-selling author of the Kings of Korruption MC series. She lives in beautiful New Brunswick, Canada and is a mom to two beautiful, but slightly crazy little girls. Geri has been an avid reader for as long as she can remember. She can usually be found curled up in a comfy chair, reading on her iPad both day and night. Geri is an incurable night owl, and it’s not uncommon for her to still be awake, reading at 4 am, just because she can’t put the book down.
Geri loves all genres of fiction, but her passion is anything romantic or terrifying; basically anything that can get her heart pumping. This passion has bled out onto her laptop, and became the Kings of Korruption.
Writing the first book in the series knocked off the #1 thing on Geri’s bucket list, and publishing it has been an absolute dream come true. She hopes you all love the Kings as much as she does.
GM Scherbert
Author GM Scherbert was born on a brisk late April morning. She grew up in a small town in the Midwest but, quickly decided that was not the life for her. She quickly moved away for college and thought better of returning to that small town on a long term basis. City living is the life for her.
Her day job working with people on the Autism spectrum keeps her on the go most of the time. That is when her two small daughters and husband are not pulling her in different direction.
Author GM Scherbert is the kind of gal who is quirky, unique, smutty, hard to hate, harder to love. She has taken her love for telling stories to the next level by putting her hat in the romance writing game. If you are interested in romance with twists and some darker themes Author GM Scherbert will be right up your alley.
Harley McRide
There is nothing better in this world than being an author! I have an amazing supportive family, I have three children, one boy and two girls. They are the lights of my life along with my husband whom I adore. Without their support I would not have become a writer!
Jacqueline M. Sinclair
Jacqueline grew up in the rural southeast and is the youngest child of a large and rowdy family. Reading was an escape when there wasn’t much else around to do. She loves everything from classical literature to true crime and everything in between. With her two children grown and gone, she’s surrounded by a menagerie of adopted pets and a two-legged thief who refused to give her heart back after a night of karaoke.
With a day job and a dream job, her writing is a steamy combination of real life and seeking to answer the age-old question of what would happen if…and then characters come along and completely derail the plan. Letting them have their say provides plenty of sleepless nights and an endless combination of coffee and wine, but she hopes you enjoy their stories.
Kathleen Kelly

Her hair is growing back and her nails are returning to normal. Currently, she is plotting her next book.
Liberty Parker
I have been an avid reader for most of my life. When I was younger I use to sit and fill spiral notebooks full of stories for my grandmother. As I got older I took the jobs needed for raising my boys as a single mom until I met my now amazing husband. I have stopped working in the last three years and started promoting authors, then I blogged and reviewed for authors, which lead me down the path to writing and creating characters and stories. I love creating behind the scenes with my writing getting to use my imagination and write the story as it comes to me.I am loving the people I am meeting and the support system I have found.
Shelly Morgan
I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I have 2 older sisters and amazing parents. Growing up, I was always a daddy’s girl, hanging out with him in the garage, fishing, and building stuff. I loved to play softball and swimming, but reading, telling stories, and writing were my passion, even at a young age. I took a break from writing for a while, but you could always find me with a book in my hand.
I have three children – two boys and a girl. They are my whole world. Even when I’m having the worst day ever, they brighten up my day and make me smile.
A few years ago, there was this story that would always play out in my head and no matter how many times I went through it, from beginning to end, it would never fade. So I decided to put it on paper. I didn’t plan on publishing it, but when it was almost done, a friend asked to read it. She said it was a story that needed to be shared. And that’s what started my writing career.
I love all genres of books, and even though I started with writing MC Romance, I have a whole book of ideas, so you can expect more from me than just MC, though romance is in my blood.
Even though I currently work two jobs, my ultimate dream is to become a full time author. I want to be able to spend my days filling pages with stories. I want to be the reason people find a reason to smile or laugh from lines on a page. Reading a book allows me to live in someone else’s shoes, even if only for a few minutes. It’s a way to leave my life and troubles behind and I want to be help others do that as well.
Vera Quinn
I have always been an avid reader and have had an active imagination. When my sister became sick in 2015 I spent alot of time in doctor offices and hospital rooms. I filled that time reading. My kindle and laptop became my goid friends. I started writing storylines and doing background research.
My sister convinced me to follow my dream so I did and the rest is history.
My sister passed in Febuary 2016 and I published my first book, Never Forever, in March 2016.
I say I am learning as I go and that is true. I’ve been lucky to make good friends in the indie book community and I work with some of the best. I don’t know what is next but I am excited to meet it head on.
I have been married to my husband, Charles, for 22 years and he is my rock. I have two grown son.

Review: Elemental Mating

What a marvelously breathtaking story that will sweep you off your feet and carry you into a stunningly ingenious world created to enthrall and entertain every part of your heart and mind. I truly hated to see this journey end because I feel in love so hard with these beautiful and amazing characters. They made me feel and savor them every second that I was a part of their world.
Nothing could have dragged me away from the wonder and brilliance of this incredible adventure!
What do you get when you mix a fun and exciting plot, spirited, larger than life characters, and extraordinary writing talent? You get the perfect story ever! I wasn’t sure about this book when I first started it, but I quickly fell in love with everything about it. I understand why this author stretches her writing talent, and I am so thankful that she ventures into new, unexplored areas of writing. She truly blew this story out of the water!
I have found myself throughout the past couple of years enjoying each book that I have read by Milly Taiden. She had such a fascinating writing style, and I find myself getting lost in her witty and remarkable characters every time. She never fails to pull at my heart and open up a spectacular world to my imagination and appreciation. I hope to be able to read more from her again and for a long time to come.
